SIGRID CALON & COEN KLÖSTERS

- TRIANGULAR GRID

Technology and Art come together in TRIANGULAR GRID. For 'TRIANGULAR GRID' (2018), Sigrid Calon has explored the limits and possibilities of triangular LED panels that have been specially designed for the Kalverpassage. The LED lamps can display an endless spectrum of colors. Together with Coen Klösters, production partner in the operation of the panels, Calon has looked for all RGB color options.

Calon developed a complex, almost mathematical formula that creates a different grid every minute. This has led to a color palette of 365 colors based on the days of the year. In it she created a palette of 52 white tones, one for each week. Each week consists of a palette of 7 colors including 1 white, with a maximum of 4 colors on display in the grid. In addition, every day of the week has a basic form and direction on the grid. Klösters, founder of Naivi, has developed a customized digital 'brush' in the form of an app with which Calon can translate her work directly to the screens.

Ichwan Noor amazed many with his awesome mammoth sculptures of distorted cars in forms. This gigantic sculpture is made of a genuine Volkswagen Beetle from 1953, combined with polyester and aluminum and transformed into a perfect sphere. The Beetle is one of a series of spherical and cube-shaped vehicle sculptures by the Jakarta-based sculptor.

Ai Weiwei (Peking, August 28, 1957) is a Chinese conceptual artist, political activist and philosopher, whose work consistently challenges the political regime in China and simultaneously addresses global issues. His series of sculptural redesigned Forevermerkfietsen evokes questions about continuity and change, tradition and revolution through form, innovation and simplicity. In what rapidly changing time can it be expected that the dimensions of daily life will be 'forever'?

MAARTEN BAAS - ANALOG DIGITAL CLOCK

The Analog Digital Clock by Maarten Baas (Arnsberg, 1978) is a digital clock, the numbers of which are changed manually by actors every minute. The clock is part of the 'Real Time' concept, in which four different clocks (including the analogue Schiphol clock, grandfather clocks and sweepers' clock) show films of actors who indicate the time for twelve hours. In 'Real Time' the perception of time is central. Baas created the concept to indicate how time passes, what people can do with it and how infinite time is.
